Trains won’t save tourism.

I love trains. Yes, they’re part of the solution. Yes, they’re a fantastic way to travel. Yes, more people should choose train if they could. Personally, I prefer trains. But let’s not pretend they are the solution.

  • Rail expansion destroys nature, and that’s not reversible.

  • Capacity? A tiny fraction of travelers can actually use trains.

  • Flexibility? Almost none. Miss one connection..

People want to take the train. But overpriced tickets, complicated bookings, and a system that can’t handle demand make it harder than it should be. Meanwhile, budget airlines keep running circles around it, unfortunately, let’s be real, flights will be cheaper until we stop subsiding them.

Build better trains, sure. Make them more accessible, affordable, and functional. Make more incentives for takings trains.

But don’t mistake infrastructure nostalgia for a effectful climate strategy.
